School Supply Song Pick

School starts next week for our ward so I wanted to do something with a school theme but still continue to practice the program songs.
I came up with a school supply song pick and the game 'Red Rover' (it has been on the LDS Chorister FB page and several blogs before).

Here's my plan: (very easy and low prep)

PRAYER

Our program is over!!
WaaaHoooo!
The kids did fantastic even though the practice was horrible! But isn't it always?
So I'm going to introduce October's theme of 'Prayer' with an activity called "What's the Word" and sing a few of their favorites too.
I've blogged about
What's the Word before and you can find a link HERE.
I'm doing the word PRAYER. I chose 6 songs and put them on the back of each letter. Songs like: Follow the Prophet, Family Prayer, The Church of Jesus Christ, The Golden Plates, Nephi's Courage, and My Heavenly Father Loves Me. For your SR you could also select a scripture for them to look up that has to do with prayer and place the reference on the back of each letter.
Kids take turns picking a letter, placing it on the board in random order, and singing the song. When all the letter have been selected, they try to unscramble the letters and make the word. I like to ask them what each song had to do with the word.

This is a very easy, low prep activity that's great for a sub or even FHE.

I try to sing the same song for opening and closing for the whole month. This helps them learn it better. I'm doing 'We Bow Our Heads' and 'I Love to Pray' in JR. And 'A Child's Prayer' and 'I Pray in Faith' in SR. I made a few flip charts for the ones they don't know. It seems my kids sing better if their teachers are singing and teachers sing better if I have a flip chart.

Primary Love Song

I'm getting ready for Valentine's Day.
I know the kiddos will already be hyper so I don't want to add to it by doing something crazy. But I want something cute and fun also something they could learn from. I've read several blogs about LOVE songs so that's what I've decided to do. I also wanted something LOW PREP and SIMPLE.
There are 2 different ideas here. A very simple matching game for Jr.
For Sr. there are 2 variation- Name that Love song, or clue. I've also included a list of over 15 Primary songs that contain the word LOVE.
Just print the heart cards, laminate if desired, choose your songs and you are ready to go!

I've also added a scripture reference to each song so the kiddos can use their scriptures. And I added a blank heart in case you want to pick different songs.

To motivate them to sing well, I'm also going to have my trusty heart stickers and do Musical Measles. You can read about this activity HERE.

I'll be adding some flip chart for some of the LOVE songs, so watch for other posts to come this week.

Puzzles for Singing Time

This is an idea from way back but still fun to do.
What child doesn't LOVE to put a puzzle together?
Buy a picture from the Distribution Center like a temple or Joseph Smith about 11x17 or larger. Cut it up into 8-12 pieces. Write a song and a question on the back. Place the pieces in a cute bag and take turns choosing a piece. Sing the song, answer the question and try to put the puzzle together.

This is a great idea to have made up ready to go for that Sunday when you can't get out of bed and need a sub.

Snowball Singing!

My kiddos in Primary have been practicing hard to sing their Christmas songs in Sacrament meeting. They did a FANTASTIC job on Sunday! So for the last Sunday of the year, I thought we'd just relax and have a little fun singing some of our favorite songs.
I will be doing this fun 'Snowball Singing' activity.
I printed several cute snowmen with songs on the back. I'll place them on the front board. Then I've printed fun ways to sing the songs on white copy paper. Then I wadded them up into a ball to represent a 'snowball' and placed them in a bucket. I'll choose a child to come up and pick a paper snowball to throw at a snowman. Which ever one they hit, is the song we will sing. Then we will un-wad the snowball to see how we will sing it.
Super easy, fast prep, and fun!
